Hairballs

Hair is part of a wild cat’s diet, and a cat with a naturally functioning digestive system will digest hair and feathers (from themselves and prey) and get nutrients from it. When their digestive system gets too alkaline or isn’t producing the proper enzymes they aren’t able to digest hair or pass it properly. Grooming helps but changing your cat to an unprocessed wet diet will cure the problem. Purchasing a synthetic oil/lubricant additive may treat the symptom but will not solve the problem and may cause respiratory distress and dehydration. Healthy cats should rarely, if ever, vomit.
